Press Release – Hall of Fame 2011
Holyoke Catholic High School inducted its first ever class of athletes into its Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday June 5th, 2010. Among the recipients were David Bartley former State Rep, Speaker of the House and former President of Holyoke Community College, Edward Shevlin former Holyoke High School Principal, regional Vice President of Prudential Financial Bob Neil, and Pat Bresnahan founder of Bresnahan Insurance. The earliest athlete inducted was Stum Garbacik of Holy Rosary High class of 1929, awarded posthumously. Awards were given to athletes from Holyoke Catholic High School as well as the four original founding parish high schools of Holy Rosary, Sacred Heart, St. Jerome and Precious Blood. Monsignor Leary of St. Jerome Parish brought the four schools together first to play sports on a unified Holyoke Catholic High School team years before the four schools were merged academically. In Honor of Monsignor Leary a community leadership award was established in his name. This year’s recipient was David Bartley. Thirty three athletes were inducted into the Hall of Fame with the youngest being golfer Brian Patrick Crawford and softball pitcher Nicole Fagnant Ryczek, both of the class of 1995. The event was held at the Castle of Knights with 500 people in attendance.
